White and Colored Angora Goats

Angora Goats are used to produce their hair which is called mohair.

The mohair grows about 1 inch per month and is sheared off the goat
twice a year.  One angora goat can produce anywhere from 6 to 14
pounds of mohair each year.  Mohair is stronger and warmer than wool .
It does not shrink like wool and does not burn easily.  The mohair holds
dye well and comes in many different natural colors.  The most valuable
mohair comes from the younger goats.

We hand clip our goats, then clean and spin our mohair into yarn.

Our angora goats are gentle and fun.  They are very easy to take care of
and enjoyable to watch.  The babies are born weighing 4 to 6 pounds.
The gestation period is 5 months.  The adult females weigh 70 to 110
pounds.  The males weigh 130 to 200 pounds.

Angora goats eat a diet of high quality grain, hay and pasture grass.
They are so much fun to have and are a great experience for the kids.
Their temperaments are mostly calm and docile with each having its own
personality.  Angora goats are very likable goats.  They are herd animals,
which means that they have to be with another goat or herd animal.

We have just added to our colored angora goats (Thanks Marlene and
Carl!!)  and will be expecting a few colored goats this spring.  Already this
year we have had a beautiful apricot doe born on Leap Day and twin
white bucks born after that!
